NVQ Level 3 - Children's Care, Learning and
Development
This course is suitable for those
who already work with children between 0 and 16 years, as a
supervisor in a setting which provides planned activities for
children. This could be in a School, Out of School club, Day
Nursery, Playgroup, Crèche, Neighbourhood Nursery or Children's
Centre.
Learner entry requirements
Good standard of written and
spoken English at GCSE standard. Learners must be working in a
supervisory role within the
childcare, Playwork or education sector.
The Assessment Process
● A minimum of 12
voluntary or paid hours per week
● Taught sessions, to underpin your practice with knowledge and
understanding,
are available at a number of locations in the West Midlands area
● Assessments of day-to-day practice are carried out in the
workplace by a
qualified and experienced NVQ Assessor
● Learner produces a portfolio of evidence of their competence
● Learners must be able to demonstrate knowledge of appropriate ways
of
working with children outside of the age range of their placement
(from 0-16
years)
Knowledge and Understanding
Tutorials
Held during the day at Solihull
and Birmingham and in the evening in Harborne, Sandwell and Kings
Norton, weekly, during term-time, tutorials cover the Knowledge and
Understanding requirements of the Mandatory Units of the
qualification. Guidance on the knowledge base for the Optional Units
you are pursuing, is normally covered by personal research and
questioning / advice from your assessor.
Time Scale for Achievement of
the Award
Your registration with the
Awarding Body (in this case City and Guilds) normally lasts three
years. Most learners complete in around twelve months. It largely
depends on your efforts.
