Government grant for SMEs now available – that’s £1500 towards hiring an apprentice!

The National Apprenticeship Service launched the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) in March to directly address the challenges many SMEs currently face in managing ongoing recruitment costs. A limited number of grants are available over the next 12 months and priority is being given to the SME market.

Criteria

£1500 is available to SMEs over 2 installments.
£1500 is available to SMEs across England who are able to offer a full time job opportunity for a young person aged 16-24, the position must be a minimum of 30 hours
per week. This will enable the learner to attend off the job training.
The payment is a grant and is therefore exempt from VAT
The £1500 is in ADDITION to the cost of Apprenticeship training which in most cases is also covered by the government.
Once recruited the apprentice will need to be paid a minimum of £2.60 per hour.
Up to 3 grants are available per employer
This grant is for employers who have not employed an apprentice prior to January 2009 or who have never employed an apprentice.

* SME = small to medium enterprise, employing less than 250 employees. For more information please contact Angela McGlinchey on 0121 427 2529.
